Join us for the 5th Annual Women’s Wilderness Trail Project! Spend a week in a supportive, all-female environment improving the South Fork Lolo Creek Trail #311. This project is a unique opportunity to practice wilderness ethics, build skills in traditional tool use, and form lasting connections while restoring access to the northern reaches of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness.
The 2017 Lolo Fire and recent windstorms have left the South Fork Lolo Trail heavily obstructed. Our crew will clear fallen trees, brush overgrown vegetation, and restabilize the trail tread. Since sections of the route may be buried, there is potential for some adventurous route-finding and scrambling around logs as part of the experience.
This is a strenuous project. Participants should be comfortable hiking multiple miles a day over steep, uneven terrain. From our basecamp at Bass Lake, each morning we’ll hike over the pass to reach the work site, a trek of approximately 0.75 miles with a 500-foot elevation gain.
Pack support will be provided by the U.S. Forest Service to carry in tools, group gear, and food to basecamp. However, participants will need to carry their own personal gear and items (see packing list).
SBFC will provide breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks.
